That the Parliament commends the Scottish Retail Consortium and PaddleUK on producing, Partnership in Safety – Voluntary Guidelines for Paddleboard Retailers; notes the aim of this publication is to inspire more people to experience the joy of what it believes is the rapidly expanding sport of paddleboarding and Scotland’s blue open spaces with the right knowledge and equipment to stay safe, happy and confident on lochs and open waters; considers this to be a responsible initiative from representatives of retailers and the governing body for paddlesport; believes that it has been welcomed by HM Coastguard and is designed to help retailers and online marketplaces with practical support to embed key safety messages into their marketing and consumer education and to help foster a vibrant and safety-conscious paddleboard community by providing clear and concise safety messages at point of sale and safety checklists and tips for customers, and notes that these include tips about wearing buoyancy aids, personal floatation devices and participants using a leash to keep them connected to their craft and also pointing to more in-depth sources of safety information, such as #PaddleSafe.

That the Parliament recognises the work undertaken by The Rawthey Project in supporting individuals experiencing social or economic disadvantage, particularly those from backgrounds in the armed forces, emergency services and the NHS; acknowledges what it sees as the importance of peer-led and outcome-focused support models in assisting individuals facing isolation, hardship, mental health challenges or barriers to independent living; commends the organisation’s efforts to support access to employment, education, accommodation and treatment; acknowledges the role of volunteers with lived and professional experience in delivering tailored support; notes that all services are guided by clinical and care professionals, and thanks everyone involved with The Rawthey Project for their continued commitment to supporting vulnerable people across Scotland and the wider UK.

As an amendment to motion S7M-00105 in the name of John Swinney (Ambitious for Scotland), leave out from first "welcomes" to end and insert, "notes that the Scottish National Party’s stated objective prior to 7 May 2026 was to secure an overall majority in the Scottish Parliament elections in order to pursue independence, but that the party achieved fewer votes and seats than in the previous elections, whereas the Scottish Liberal Democrats achieved gains across Scotland from the Borders to the Highlands, and believes that the Scottish Government must now focus on fixing the NHS and care, helping people with the cost of living crisis, fixing the roads and the ferries and getting Scottish education back to its best, in order to deliver the change that Scotland deserves."

That the Parliament condemns the UK Government for what it believes to be the easing of sanctions on Russia and Vladimir Putin’s regime; notes that additional sanctions have been in place since the full-scale, illegal invasion of Ukraine in February 2022; considers this decision to be an utter betrayal of the fighting men and women of Ukraine; recognises the sacrifices made, not just by fighters in Ukraine, but also by civilians who are facing aerial bombardment from Russia on a nightly basis, and calls on the UK Government to immediately reverse this decision.

That the Parliament calls on the Scottish Government to commit to a full, new-build replacement of the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Shetland; notes that the existing hospital was opened in 1961 and has faced severe weathering and degradation in the decades since; believes that this risks leaving health services in Shetland in an unacceptable situation unless action is taken; commends NHS Shetland staff for their dedication and commitment to high quality services despite the challenges facing them; believes that island communities such as Shetland deserve world-class healthcare as much as any part of Scotland, and calls on the Scottish Government ministers to engage urgently with NHS Shetland and deliver a new-build hospital for Shetland.

That the Parliament congratulates Christie Gowans on her outstanding achievement of being named Dance Teacher of the Year in the Scottish Dance Awards, which recognise excellence in teaching and student success; acknowledges the award as a testament to her contribution and dedication to education within the school and the wider community; recognises her commitment to LBA Performing Arts, where she serves as director, and the school’s strong ethos of wellbeing and inclusivity, and notes that being selected from a field of exceptional educators across Scotland highlights her exceptional contribution to the community and the spirit that she brings to it.

That the Parliament congratulates North Edinburgh Arts on receiving a £120,000 grant from the National Lottery; recognises that the organisation will use the funding to continue its Green Projects work, which provides a calm and welcoming garden, volunteering opportunities and community shed activities with approximately 500 people and 30 volunteers participating in 250 events each year; acknowledges that this work responds to a community need to challenge climate change through a focus on sustainability and biodiversity, enhancing provision and providing use of a quality greenspace in an area where many are living in poverty; further acknowledges the link between the organisation and the new Community Led Improvement Programme, which aims to give voluntary organisations the opportunity to bid for council procurement for greenspace development; celebrates the funding being utilised with the development of the Community Shed, forging partnerships with other local organisations to create a welcoming space for Muirhouse residents, and wishes North Edinburgh Arts every success that the funding can bring to the local community.

That the Parliament considers endometriosis to be a serious chronic disease with a significant impact on the quality of life of those who have it; understands that it is a health condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (endometrium) grows in other parts of the body, causing potentially debilitating pain; considers that its burden has been exacerbated by the historic neglect of women’s healthcare, leading to a lack of research, as a result of which the relatively invasive procedure of laparoscopic surgery remains the only definitive method of diagnosis; notes that traditional non-invasive diagnostic tools, such as blood tests, ultrasounds and MRIs, can be useful but have limited diagnostic capacity as they do not always detect the disease, particularly in less infiltrative cases; understands that, despite affecting approximately 10% of women of reproductive age globally, endometriosis takes, on average, seven to 10 years from symptom onset to be diagnosed; considers that this delay in diagnosis is contributed to by the societal dismissal of women’s menstrual pain, even when severe, as “normal”, and treatment therefore often being the routine management of symptoms, including through the prescription of hormonal contraception, without adequate investigation; commends the development of non-invasive diagnostic tools such as the Ziwig Endotest, which analyses microRNAs in a saliva sample to screen for endometriosis with a diagnostic accuracy of over 95%; urges NHS Scotland to support the widespread implementation of such tools in public healthcare, and calls on the Scottish Government to appropriately prioritise and fund further research into understanding, diagnosing, treating and ultimately curing endometriosis, given that it is the second most common gynaecological condition in the UK.
