That the Parliament is concerned by the recent decision by Girlguiding UK to ban trans girls and young women from joining its groups; notes that this change follows a Supreme Court ruling on the interpretation of sex in equality law, but believes that this policy undermines the principles of inclusion and equality that Girlguiding has upheld for many years; recognises what it sees as the harm that this decision will cause to trans young people and their families, as highlighted by organisations such as TransActual; notes that Girlguiding has stated that it made this decision “with a heavy heart”, and calls on the organisation to reconsider what it considers this exclusionary approach and work with stakeholders to ensure that all young people, regardless of their gender identity, can access opportunities for friendship, adventure and personal development.

That the Parliament congratulates Peebles resident Kathy Gilchrist on being named one of the UK’s Top 100 Women in Cycling; recognises her outstanding contribution to the sport in Scotland and internationally; notes that she was the first woman to chair the board of Scottish Cycling and later became its first female president, helping to open doors for women in sporting leadership; acknowledges her earlier work in the United States, where she managed a velodrome and helped to establish the National Collegiate Cycling Association; welcomes her continued service as a trustee of the Scottish Cycling Foundation; celebrates her long-standing commitment to supporting young riders and strengthening the future of cycling in Scotland, and commits to supporting women in cycling.

That the Parliament congratulates the Dumfries Accordion and Fiddle Club on marking its 60th anniversary at the Hole I’ the Wa’, which is the venue where the club first began; recognises the club’s longstanding contribution to traditional Scottish music and the local musicians who have kept the group thriving; notes the involvement of past and present members who gathered along with special guests to celebrate the milestone with performances and speeches; acknowledges the dedication of volunteers and supporters who help sustain the club’s activities, and wishes the Dumfries Accordion and Fiddle Club continued success as it promotes live traditional music in the Dumfriesshire community for many years to come.

That the Parliament congratulates Matthew Wallace Snr, Mathew Wallace Jnr and the whole team at the Cairndale Hotel and Spa in Dumfries on the hotel being named Scotland’s Best Spa at the UK Good Spa Guide Regional Awards; notes that the awards are regarded as the “Oscars of the spa world” and that winners are selected through mystery visits and independent assessments; recognises that the Cairndale’s £2 million spa opened less than 18 months ago and has already outperformed some of Scotland’s most established five-star venues; acknowledges what it sees as the significant commitment and vision shown by the Cairndale team who have created a world-class wellness destination in the south of Scotland; welcomes the positive impact that the Cairndale continues to have on local tourism, employment and the wider Dumfriesshire economy, and commits to supporting the tourist sector more widely into 2026 an beyond. 

That the Parliament recognises East Lothian Councillor Donna Collins for her efforts in selling Christmas cards to raise money for fishermen affected by the fire at McArthur’s Store in Dunbar; notes that she has raised over £1,000 to date; understands that the fire on 27 October 2025 has left local fishermen without a base near the harbour and that the funds raised will provide temporary support until a permanent solution is found; thanks the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for its work in tackling the fire and keeping people safe, and the Dunbar Harbour Trust for its support, and affirms its commitment to supporting the fishing community in the South Scotland region.

That the Parliament congratulates the graduates of City of Glasgow College, who were celebrated at the winter graduation ceremony in front of approximately 4,000 people; notes the wide range of disciplines in which students graduated, including hospitality and leisure, nautical and STEM, creative industries and education; wishes graduates every success as they embark on the next stages of their careers or further study, and acknowledges what it sees as the vital role that City of Glasgow College plays in reskilling and upskilling Scotland’s workforce and helping to meet the needs of employers.

That the Parliament agrees that the relevant provisions of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, introduced in the House of Commons on 16 October 2024, and subsequently amended, relating to the prohibition on advertising of the England and Wales Voluntary Assisted Dying Service, so far as these matters fall within the legislative competence of the Scottish Parliament, should be considered by the UK Parliament.

That the Parliament marks Small Business Saturday UK on 6 December 2025, an annual grassroots, not-for-profit campaign that celebrates and encourages support for small businesses across the UK; acknowledges that the campaign aims to highlight small business success while encouraging consumers to shop locally; recognises the vital role that small businesses play in communities across Scotland, including in the Scottish Borders, by driving growth, creating jobs and sustaining vibrant town centres; understands that micro and small businesses represent 98% of all enterprises in Scotland, employ more than 900,000 people and turnover £93 billion annually, according to the Federation of Small Businesses; considers that small businesses, particularly in rural communities, face increasing pressures from rising costs and economic uncertainty; notes the view that, although the Small Business Saturday occurs only once a year, support for and recognition of small businesses must continue throughout the year, and celebrates the vital contribution of small and rural businesses to Scotland’s economy.

That the Parliament congratulates the groups in the Falkirk East constituency that were awarded grant funding via the Asda Foundation; recognises that, as part of its commitment to making the communities surrounding its stores better places to live and work for colleagues and customers, Asda established the Asda Foundation to provide grants to good causes in Scotland; notes that grants are available to groups that are helping communities to address certain challenges, including the rising cost of living, and to improve the lives of children and young people; further notes that each project that the Asda Foundation supports is nominated directly by people in the communities it serves; celebrates that Bo'ness Storehouse Foodbank received £600, Grangemouth Community Care was awarded £600, Grangemouth Old People's Welfare was granted £600, Dennyloanhead Community Hall Ltd was awarded £1,600, and Larbert and Stenhousemuir Age Concern received £600; acknowledges that these grants were awarded with the support of local community champions from Asda Grangemouth and Asda Stenhousemuir; congratulates all recipients of Asda Foundation grants, and wishes them well as they deliver their respective projects.
