That the Parliament celebrates that young Orkney band, Auskerry, is among the winners of the Danny Kyle Open Stage 2026; understands that the contest was established in 1999 in the memory of Danny Kyle, who was a renowned folk musician and champion of Scottish traditional music; further understands that winners of a Danny Award are asked to perform at the annual showcase and are given a slot at the following year’s Celtic Connections festival; considers that this is a fantastic achievement for Auskerry, whose members started playing together in 2023, busking in Kirkwall and playing at local fundraisers before their Orkney Folk Festival debut in 2024; believes that the band epitomises the impressive young musical talent in Orkney and that its performances combine real energy with a maturity well beyond the members' years; congratulates the band and all of the Danny Kyle Open Stage winners on their achievement, and looks forward to seeing them continue to take the folk music scene in Scotland, and beyond, by storm.
