UN International Day of Older Persons 2025

  • Submitted by: Christine Grahame, Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 26 September 2025
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-19109

That the Parliament notes that 1 October 2025 marks the UN International Day of Older Persons; recognises what it sees as the significant contribution that older people make to communities across Scotland; acknowledges with concern the impact that the continuing cost of living crisis is having on older people, many of whom are struggling to make ends meet; notes the UK Government’s decision to launch another review of the state pension, only three years after the previous one, which, it believes, risks creating further stress and uncertainty for pensioners, and expresses support for efforts to secure a fairer deal for older people in Scotland and to defend the state pension as a vital part of social security and dignity in later life.
