That the Parliament recognises what it considers to be the long-standing and reliable commercial partnership between Scotland and Taiwan (Republic of China/ROC); notes that, according to HMRC figures released in December 2024, by the end of 2023 Scotland’s goods exports to Taiwan reached £364 million, while imports from Taiwan to Scotland stood at £133 million, creating a total trading relationship worth nearly £500 million; welcomes what it sees as Taiwan’s deep appreciation for Scotch whisky, with the country reportedly ranked as the fourth-largest importer by value in both 2023 and 2024; recognises the contribution of the late Dr Jim Swan, a respected Scottish whisky consultant, in establishing Taiwan’s first whisky distillery; highlights the growing demand in Taiwan for Scottish salmon, with Taiwan also ranking fourth among Asian importers in 2024, contributing to record-high exports as reported by Salmon Scotland, and believes that this flourishing relationship is a testament to the shared values, mutual respect, and cultural affinity between Scotland and Taiwan.
