Questions and answers

Parliamentary questions can be asked by any MSP to the Scottish Government or the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body. The questions provide a means for MSPs to get factual and statistical information.

Written questions must be answered within 10 working days (20 working days during recess)

To ask the Scottish Government whether it will provide an update regarding how it helps to meet the needs of veterans with mental health problems and their families.

The needs of veterans with mental health problems and their families are met by NHSScotland working together with its partners in the statutory and third sectors to plan and provide fit for purpose services which meet the assessed needs of their populations.

The Scottish Government set out its commitment to veterans and their families in Renewing Our Commitments, 2016 which highlighted Scottish Government funding of £3.6 million over three years to 2018 in partnership with NHSScotland for the provision of specialist mental health services for veterans resident in Scotland at the Hollybush House Combat Stress facility in Ayr.

Many of the key themes and commitments in the Government’s new Mental Health Strategy will also impact positively on veterans and their families, including ensuring better access to joined up accessible services and improving the physical health of people with mental health problems.
