To ask the Scottish Executive what it has done to improve access to health services for veterans.
Answer
In 2008, the Priority Treatment scheme was extended to allow all veterans priority access to treatment for service-related conditions and we have ensured that injured veterans have access to state of the art prosthetic limbs from the NHS – matching those provided by the Defence Medical Services.
In addition, we have committed to taking forward the recommendations made by Dr Andrew Murrison in his report, A Better Deal for Military Amputees. Published last year, one of the key commitments is the development of eight multi-disciplinary prosthetics centres across the UK, one of which will be in Scotland.
