To ask the Scottish Government what progress it is making in promoting business tourism.

VisitScotland estimate that the expected gross value added impact of events attracted through the Business Tourism Unit support since May 2012 is £73 million, supporting 1,330 full time equivalent jobs.

The Scottish Government launched the Conference Bid Fund in 2012 which provided £2 million in match-funding, over three years, to attract conferences to Scotland.

By the end of October 2014, the Conference Bid Fund had helped secure 72 conferences – an expected 84,000 delegates with an estimated gross delegate spend of £143 million by 2021. Based on pending bids VisitScotland, which administers the fund, is forecasting that just over £2 million match funding will deliver an estimated gross delegate spend of over £200 million by 2024.

We have now secured funding for a new Conference Bid Fund for 2015-16, ensuring a further £1 million of new money will be available to provide match-funding to continue to attract conferences to Scotland.
