To ask the Scottish Government what its position is on whether the arts should be protected for the town of Musselburgh and the people of East Lothian.
Answer
The Scottish Government wants to ensure that everyone in Scotland has access to culture. Since 2020 Creative Scotland, our national arts body, has provided £2.8m in funding to organisations based in East Lothian including the Lammermuir Festival and the Brunton Theatre.
This year we have committed £15.8m more to the culture budget than in 2023-2024. This is the first step to achieving our commitment to invest at least £100 million more annually in the culture sector by 2028-29.
